Ghana Tour Itinerary

Proposed Activities:

One of the unique aspects of this summer’s tour is that you will be helping to build a library and computer lab for the Santa Maria community on the outskirts of Accra. We will need assistance with activities from clearing land, creating a foundation platform and building bookshelves to cataloguing books and community outreach.  As there are a variety of tasks, you may choose how you would like to be involved.

ARRIVAL IN ACCRA

  • Orientation, excursion into Accra, change money.
  • University of Ghana, lecture on the popular music style, international center for music and dance by Hewale sounds, dinner at Frankies, stay Sammo guest house.

CAPE COAST

  • Drive to Cape Coast, lunch at cape coast castle restaurant; visit the dungeons, performance by Agoro troupe, dinner at Marble Table and discussion of the dungeons by Rabbi Kohin.
  • Free morning in Cape Coast, lunch at Crocodile restaurant.
  • Drive to Kakum National Park forest, performance by Bamboo Orchestra, canopy walk, stay overnight at Kakum rain forest, walk in the farm early morning.

KUMASI AND SURROUNDING VILLAGES

  • Drive to Kumasi, stay at Sir Max, Stadium Hotel or Lizzie’s hotel, lunch and a visit to the palace museum, dinner at Chinese restaurant.
  • Spirit possession dance in a village, lunch, drive to Kente weaving village, market, dinner at Indian restaurant.

NORTHERN GHANA

  • Drive to Tanobaose (3hrs) near Techiman to the Tano sacred grove. Greet chief. P.M, stay at the Baafi village, music in the evening.
  • Visit the sacred grove and drive to Mole national park, lunch at the Kintampo falls, stay at Mole, dinner.
  • Hike in the park and drive to Tamale, stay at Ticcs (Temale Institute of Cross Cultural studies)or Tohazi guest house, lunch on the way, dinner at Ticcs (pizza dinner).
  • Performance by Yakubu drumming troupe, drive to Bolgatanga, lunch at the Diplomat restaurant , free night, dinner at Swad restaurant.
  • Visit the crocodile pond at Paga and former slave camp, drive back to Bolga lunch and performance, dinner at Swad.
  • Drive to Tamale for breakfast and drive to Boabin Fiama monkey sanctuary, lunch, then to Akosombo stay at Adomi hotel.

KROBO ODUMASE – BEAD MARKET

  • Drive to Krobo Odumase to Cedi Beads industry, make beads, lunch at Adomi hotel, Dipo custom performance at Cedi Beads Industry, dinner at Adomi hotel.

ACCRA SURROUNDING AREAS

  • Drive to Adaklu (2 hrs) lunch at Ho, stay at Adaklu.
  • Hike at Adaklu Mountains , lunch, performance, dinner.
  • Drive to Aburi Botanic Gardens, lunch in Accra, country kitchen. Rest in Aburi, dinner.
  • Walk in the gardens, check carvings, lunch at in Accra Frankies, and drive to Kokrobite.
  • Dance and drum lesson in Kokrobite, swim, lunch, personal lesson/nap, dinner at Big Mely’s.
  • Dance and drum lesson, drive to Accra Art center, dinner at Kokrobite.
  • Dance and drum lesson, lunch, drive to airport, check in, dinner at Landing restaurant and performance by Dzembii drumming troupe.
